WINTERBOURNE ACADEMY PRESS RELEASE

25th August 2022

Winterbourne Academy continues its successful trajectory and tradition of high achievement as students score another round of impressive GCSE results in 2022.

Winterbourne students and staff are celebrating phenomenal success in this year’s excellent GCSE results, which are once again testament to the hard work of everyone involved.

Despite this year’s return to the traditional exam format and multiple national changes in this, the second year with the new grading system for English and Maths, the percentage of students achieving top grades remains impressive including 26% of students achieving the very top grades of 7-9 in Mathematics and 29% in English Language. This follows a highly successful set of A Level results which saw consistent levels of successful university offers for Winterbourne 6th formers, bucking the national trend with many Winterbourne students taking up Russell Group Universities and Oxbridge places this autumn.

We now look forward to welcoming students back in September to commence their post 16 courses at our Sixth Form in September, where numbers have grown year-on-year in our dedicated Post 16 Centre, offering courses which are fully integrated with the vast range of those on offer across the Olympus secondary centres.

Students have truly excelled. Subject highlights at the highest grades (7-9) include RE, in which 35% of students scored the top grades and Sociology, where 39% reached grades 7-9. Others include:

Headteacher Jason Beardmore commented: “I am so pleased to offer my congratulations to the students securing this outstanding set of results. They have extended the Winterbourne tradition of high standards across a wide range of subject areas and these results are testament to their determination, hard work and commitment.  As the outgoing headteacher, I could not be prouder of this group of wonderful young people and I am sure they are set for great things as they prepare their next steps.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff for their ongoing dedication to our students’ achievements over time, as exemplified by this cohort of young people.  Under the leadership of Victoria Boynton, Winterbourne looks forward to welcoming many of them back to the Sixth Form in September, for the exciting next chapter in their journey.  I will miss them, and I wish them and everyone else in the Winterbourne community all the best for the new academic year, whatever they will be doing.”
