Cultural Dress Day- Thursday 8th December

Hello all,

Along with many other local and national schools in the UK, we will be introducing Cultural Dress Day this year on the 8th of December in addition to Christmas Jumper day. This has been a great success in Bristol schools.

Aim of Cultural Dress Day

Each year when we have ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ along with many other schools around the country, we are reminded that many of our students and staff don’t celebrate Christmas as one of their religious or cultural celebrations. Also, there are Christians around the world who wear their respective regions traditional dress to celebrate Christmas.

Culture Day is an opportunity for staff and students to celebrate their respective cultures as well as wearing Christmas jumpers for those who celebrate Christmas. Students and staff can wear an item of traditional clothing, a Christmas jumper, or colours to represent the country or flag that they identify with their culture or religion.

This is also an opportunity to learn about the different cultures represented in our school.

 What students can wear

  • Items of traditional clothing
  • Sporting shirts or colours which represent the flag for the country that they identify with and their respective cultures
  • A Christmas jumper

We don’t expect students to go out and buy clothes especially for the day. Just see what you have at home.

What you cannot wear

This is highlighted in the PowerPoint (/docs/Culture_Day_8th_Dec_22.pptx)

Students will need to be in respectful dress which is appropriate for school:

  • Length of skirts should be the same length as school skirts or longer
  • No exposed midriffs
  • No offensive logos / pictures on clothing
  • No rips in jeans above the knee
  • Jewellery needs to be in keeping with health and safety expectations

Charity Event

Please remind students that this is a charity event for Save the Children. Please encourage students to take part and bring £1.
