Winterbourne staff and governors are thrilled to share our provisional A- Level results for the 2020 cohort.

 Mr Beardmore commented:

 “Winterbourne students have again achieved some truly amazing results, helping us maintain our solid and consistent pattern of high achievement across multiple measures. Many students have scored top grades, exceeding national expectations in terms of their individual progress. This has of course been a trying year for all young people. We wholeheartedly commend Winterbourne 6th form students, not only for their impressive academic achievements which are celebrated here, but also their resilience in circumstances we would never have imagined or predicted a year ago. We wish them all the very best for the future and look forward to hearing from them again soon.”

Both attainment and point score remain very strong at Winterbourne and we are extremely pleased to announce an overall A- level pass rate of 98%

This year, we can confirm that an amazing 40% of our students achieved A*- A /equivalent grades, which is a rise from 2019 and just under 50% achieved A*-B at A-level.

Students with particularly impressive results, include:

  • Emma Lovick: 3 A* grades in Maths, History and Spanish. A in English Language; A* in EPQ
  • James Wishart: 2 A*s in Further Maths and Chemistry; A grades in Maths and Biology; A* in EPQ
  • Megan Lee (Head girl): 2 A* grades in Media and English Literature; A in History; A* in EPQ
  • Lauren Rintoul: A* in Maths; 2 A grades in Business and also Economics
  • Olivia Sullivan: A* grade in Sociology; A grades in both Business and Economics
  • Marton Handa: 4 A grades in Further Maths, Maths, Chemistry and also Physics (Marton will be studying Aeronautics with space engineering at Southampton University)
  • Isabelle Gooding: Distinction* in Vtech Engineering; A grade in Photography; C in Geography  

Once again, numerous Winterbourne Academy students have already secured university places, including top prestigious Russell Group universities. Examples include the following students who have already been offered and accepted their place:

  • Isaac Briggs: Bristol University (Physics)James Wishart and Emma Lovick
  • Ruth Eyre: Bristol University (Liberal Arts)
  • Emma Lovick Cambridge: (Modern and Medieval Languages)
  • James Wishart: Exeter University (Medicine)
  • Megan Lee: Birmingham University (English)
  • Lauren Rintoul: Bristol University (Economics)

 

A diverse range of academic and vocational subject areas have made significant improvements at Winterbourne, again demonstrating our focus on breadth and excellence across the curriculum. Some examples include Engineering, whose success rate at the top grades has now risen to 83%, Photography, scoring 75% A and above, Further Maths 50% A- grade and above.

Miss Jolosa, Assistant Head Teacher and Head of Post-16 education at Winterbourne Academy said the following:

 “During their time at Winterbourne Academy our sixth form students have worked extremely hard. I cannot overstate how proud I am of our students: the determination and resilience they have demonstrated during the past 5 months in particular is outstanding and humbling. I wish them all the best as they embark on their next chapter in their lives. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of their teachers for their commitment and dedication to the 6th form students over the past 2 years.”
