Immunisation Service @ Winterbourne Academy

The School Aged Immunisation Team consists of registered nurses and support workers who are fully-trained and experienced in the delivery of vaccinations.

These vaccinations are given in both school and community settings.

What we vaccinate against and why

We are commissioned by NHS England to deliver the national school-age immunisations programme for childhood flu, human papilloma virus (HPV), meningitis ACWY, and the diphtheria, tetanus and polio booster (TD/IPV) across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.

The national immunisation programme aims to provide children and young people with the best protection against infectious diseases – ensuring protection through infancy, teenage years and adulthood.

Due to current high levels of vaccination coverage, serious preventable diseases such as influenza (flu), measles, mumps and meningitis are rare. But we are also aware that these diseases can return if the number of immunised children falls – an example of this is measles.

What do I do if my child has missed their vaccination?

For children who are home educated or have missed their dose at school, community clinics are provided across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset:

  • Students who are in years 8 and 9 should contact our team using the details on this page to book an appointment
  • Students who are in year 10 or above should speak to the GP surgery to discuss catching up vaccinations

If your child is afraid of needles, highly anxious or you have any other worries, please email the team using the details below. We will be able to advise on how best they can be supported to receive their immunisation.
